Spot market

The spot market is where financial instruments, such as commodities, currencies, and securities, are traded for immediate delivery. (Investopedia), i.e. the immediate exchange of a cryptocurrency against another crypto, a stable coin, or a fiat currency.

For example, when you considere the market BTC/USDT. Base is BTC, Quote is USDT.

In crypto-currency, it is common to have an asset you want to buy as a base, like BTC. And a quote asset, liquid enough, such as fiat currency, stablecoin or very liquid crypto such as BTC and ETH.
